Role Overview

Purpose and Scope

As an Adjunct Faculty graphic design instructor, you will be responsible for designing and teaching courses in diverse and dynamic ways to promote student learning and help the institution reach its milestones. This part-time position offers the opportunity to model creativity and encourage visual communication in students.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Visual Communication courses at various times and locations.
  • Design engaging lessons to encourage active student participation.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress, providing timely feedback.
  • Utilize course syllabi adhering to institutional guidelines.
  • Construct and nurture professional relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and orientations as required.
  • Submit all required reports and forms promptly.
  • Ensure instructional delivery conforms to LSC’s mission of achieving a diverse and academically elite student population.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s (or higher) degree in Visual Communication or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the relevant field outside the teaching context.
  • Evidence of demonstrated proficiency in the discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mastery of course content.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and acceptance of other views.
  • Experience with active teaching methods, such as collaborative and/or service learning.
  • Ability to use instructional technologies effectively.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in interdisciplinary teaching or adult learning methodologies.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence.

Work Conditions

  • Environment: Climate-controlled classrooms or labs with minimal safety hazards.
  • Hours: Flexible, with class schedules dependent on day, evening, and weekend availability.
  • Equipment Used: Traditional office equipment, PCs, and industry-specific technology.

Physical Demands

Work is mainly sedentary, involving sitting, walking, and some light lifting of items such as books or papers. No special physical demands are required.
